Surfacing for outdoor galvanized sculpture

Hi,

I made an outdoor sculpture long ago that has galvanized rods on part of it. Years ago they were painted with automotive paint. Now the paint is chipping off revealing white spots. I need advice on the repair. I was thinking to have it sandblasted and then either repainted or some kind of patina or a wax finish.

My questions are- Will the sandblasting take off too much of the galvanization? Will it take off enough paint to do a different type of finish like waxing or patinas? Which surface would last the longest outdoors - paint, patina or wax with colors?

Thanks for your help!
