Clearcoating an antique Diebold safe...

June 27, 2011

Hi there- I have a beautiful antique Diebold safe with gold leaf ornamentation and lettering. It is dull and slightly rusty. I want to keep this worn patina, but would like to clear coat it to prevent further deterioration. Also I am sure it's lead paint, so I hope to stop any more flaking of the paint.

Should I use a polyurethane spray clear coat? I want it to shine like it does if I rub oil on it ! Thanks
