Ban of Cadmium plating in India?

Current comment:

As UNTIL NOW (2021 DEC.), there is no official circulars released regarding the ban of cadmium plating for Aerospace and Defense Applications in India. But there is a chance in future to ban if any proper alternative coating method is developed.

A. Although I'm not conversant in legislation outside the EU I can tell you that, in EU legislation, Cadmium is not generally used in any other application other than Safety critical such as Aerospace and Defense, but even in this sector there is potential for switch to an alternative such as Zinc/Nickel alloy. The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive) has meant Cadmium has been banned for use in electrical items too. So if your customers are in the EU you may not be able to supply with cadmium products anyway. Whether you will be able to carry on plating on not largely depends on your application and resulting end product. Hopefully a central governmental body can provide you with information regarding this changing legislation. Good luck with this.

Perhaps the Indian National Safety council can point you in the right direction in terms of current legislation. Had a brief look at their website and there is information relating to an 1989 act that mentions Cadmium. I would be very interested to know the outcome and current legislative stance when you have found this.

A. There is no ban but a lot of hearsay on this subject. Cadmium is plated by most connector companies and for offshore and defense applications.

Q. Does anybody know specifically If Cd plating is banned in India?
If yes, through which notification or under ISC specifications?
If not, then why are industries are mentioning the same.
