Attaching copper pipe to galvanized roofing for solar water heater

April 11, 2011

I am planning to construct a unit to heat water consisting of corrugated metal roofing with copper pipe attached (soldered?) to it. I am trying to find out how best to treat the
surfaces and connect the materials so that they will for a cohesive bond.
I had made a solar collector before, but it was destroyed in a forest fire that also burned my home. I am trying to re-create this but do not remember some of the specifics of the construction as it was quite a few years ago. I plan to paint the collector black when it is finished, so would like the surface to be able to have the paint "stick" to it. Laurel in Butte County, Calif.
