Biocompatible Coatings for Screws

Dear Sir,
Can you please help to advise whether zinc nickel coating or zinc cobalt are biocompatible? If not, can you recommend the type of coating which is biocompatible according to ISO 10993?

Dear Mr Lee,

I don't believe that you should go anywhere near either of the two coatings mentioned by you since there are too many known issues with the chromate process and issues with cobalt and nickel as well.

There are companies that offer Bio-safe coatings and you should get in touch with them.

warm regards,

KV

Dear Sir,
Thanks for your input.
Will you able to advise me which type of coating is biocompatible? This is because we have limited sources in Singapore for plating. If I know the type of plating, it will be much easier for me to work with our local plating house. Please advise.

Many thanks!

Hydroxyapatite coating is bioactive and biocompatible.

Metallic materials used as implants are usually coated with hydroxyapatite by plasma spray.
