Chromate conversion coating application via plasma

March 29, 2011

Dear Sir or madam,

My name is Guilherme Pereira, I'm from Brazil, I study Materials Engineering and at the moment I'm doing an internship in a company that produces rubber parts for automotive line.

One of the products is a metal-rubber part, in which the metal is an aluminium alloy that needs to have its surface properly prepared for corrosion resistance and to receive the rubber coverage.

We nowadays buy the aluminium part already treated with Alodine from outside, but we want to do the treatment ourselves. Our facilities doesn't have the necessary space to install a regular chromate conversion coating line, so we are looking for faster and smaller alternatives to the process.

I thought about doing the Alodine deposition by plasma. Have anyone ever heard about it, and know if it's possible?

Thankfully,

Guilherme.

I haven't heard of deposition of chromates by plasma but I have heard of silane deposition by plasma for treatment of aluminium.
