Peel off and Stains in PVD coating


Q. Doing PVD Coating, and many times after finish coating process my product such as Punch Die and Part get problems like Peel off and Stain.
-Peel off is come from Dust.
How to stop them?

-Stain is water mark.
How to stop them?

A. Peel-off is generally due to some problem at the interface between the coating and the substrate. You have not mentioned the type of coating, substrate material or the coating process. I would pay attention to following to avoid peel off.
1. Proper cleaning of substrate - completely remove grease, oil, water marks etc and dry before loading
2. In-situ cleaning by ion bombardment or ion etching
3. Thin layer of Ti if your depositing TiN
4. Substrate temperature

A. The temperature must be 450 °C, and probably to much N2 pressure
