Mirror Finish Stainless Steel Type 316

February 18, 2011

Hi there,
I am working in a manufacturing plant that produces the following product requirements

Diameter : Up to 10 mm , round and square shapes
Height : Up to 10 mm
Stainless Steel type : 316
Surface Finish Needs : Less than N1 if possible
Other details : Surface has patterns, uneven shapes like logo, etc

We normally buff the pieces before to achieve the surface needs. However it is time consuming. Is there a possible way to achieve , say up to 80% of the needs with E-Polish technology and then continue with buffing up to N1 surface finishing?

I would appreciate if there are any other technology available.

Thank you

Not sure about electro polishing your parts but you can achieve close to what you are looking for using mass finishing equipment. Probably a 2 step operation but need to know surface finish before processing to determine.

Hi, Thanks for the reply.

After the raw material is machine lathe, the surface is around N7 / N8.

Until the final process, Polishing, we require N1 or better.

Normally, we have few hundred pieces that need to be processed for each order

How about the mass finishing system? How does it work if I have such surfaces mentioned above?
