No washing machine pipe outlet for washing machine

January 24, 2011

Hi I have just moved to a new home and have found a pipe on the outside of the wall that looks like a waste pipe for a washing machine. But the wall has been sealed up with this orange stuff. I need to plumb the waste pipe in and have no idea what I am going to do.
Should I just plumb it into under the sink? or is there a way that I can get the waste pipe into the one side or would that just be more hassle than is needed.
I am not very good at plumbing or diy but I do know about the washing machine needing a cold and hot water feed. Which I have located already.
Any help would be great; can't live without a washing machine.

Hi, Jo.

Unfortunately, this is probably a job for a plumber who is familiar with the area. You don't know if this is a waste pipe, but he probably does. You don't know why the pipe was disconnected and the wall sealed, but he may (maybe local codes no longer allow "gray water" discharge into the earth, etc.)

Hi Jo

Visit B&Q or similar.
There is a very simple kit that requires no plumbing knowledge. B&Q also employ a lot of old guys who have lots of trade experience and will be happy to help.
