How to clean platinum wire to recover reproducibility

I am in preparing a thesis where I perform the electrooxidation of alcohols on platinum. results are not reproducible, I don't know how to clean platinum wire. the wire is about 0.34 mm thickness and 2 cm length.

After normal cleaning, dip it in 50% nitric acid and rinse with high quality DI water.
Another option is to heat it to red hot. It is very slow to form oxides, but if you think that it might, cool it in an argon atmosphere.
