Sandblasting glass in prep for Al2O3 Coating

We are trying to do an alumina coating on glass. But the main concern is on the surface preparation because to do sand blasting prior to coat is very risky. So, I really appreciate any suggestion and recommendation. Thanks

Dear Peter,
I don't have direct experience with your job but you may try this: lightly blast the surface with either by adjusting to lower pressure or increase blast distance to create reasonable profile. I'm sure the profile won't be as good as normal blasting where good mechanical bonding/anchoring can be achieved. How about chemical etching with acid?

Glass is routinely blasted not only to achieve roughness but also to cut through it deep recesses and engravings. Use of adequate blasting media and parameters assures a very consistent and reliable result. G. Marrufo-Mexico
