Is Zinc Plating with RoHS Compliant Chromate also CPSIA compliant?
I manufacture a product for children that uses metal parts that are finished with zinc plating with RoHS compliant chromate. To be compliant with CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act), a more stringent mandate than RoHS, I have to prove that any lead in this finish is 300 ppm or less. Is there a way to do this without paying for expensive laboratory testing? I have been told that using lead in this process would interfere with the finish. Maybe there is an industry standard "recipe" that I could use as proof.
Thank you in advance for your advice or assistance.

Cspia may tell you how you have to handle this. Possibly, you can get lot analyses of the plating tank makeup and get by with that.
Possibly, one of the firms that tests paint for lead might be more affordable, if allowed.
If you only need a start up analysis, one should not break the budget.
