Zinc nickel alloy temperature limitations
Hello,
I am a chemical engineering student at the University of Cincinnati and I am interning at a plating shop in Ohio. I am currently trying to introduce the idea of zinc nickel alloy plating to the company. I gave my pitch to sales yesterday and I think it went pretty well. The one question they asked me that I remember reading about but cannot find it again was "What temperatures does zinc nickel protect against?". I know zinc nickel is usually used on engine parts so it is pretty high. I remember reading somewhere that it prevents corrosion anywhere from 250-500 F depending on the nickel content. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Could you also give me the temperature ranges for the different nickel contents, please? I would greatly appreciate this. Thank you.

Corrosion vs temperature is going to depend on what the final coloring /corrosion dip is.

Alright. Could you give me some examples of different types of those? Can zinc nickel alloy be used up to 1000 °F? Thank you.

Hello Kyle,
I have tested Zinc Nickel with a clear passivate at 330 °C and it passes a quench test. Most parts around an engine go up to 350 °C and parts in direct contact with the engine block do not actually exceed 380 °C.
