Nano biopolymer as topcoat for silver

Hi

We have purchased a nano protection coating for silver (Ag) but for wear and tear we didn't get the expected results from it. In the specifications it indicated it has bio polymer and this particular thing we'll have to do a dip coating.

We have purchased it from Germany.

What is your idea and overview about this?

Hi, Tharanga.

My understanding is that there are three general approaches to protecting silver: rhodium plating it, clear coating it with something, or dipping it into a tarnish inhibitor which might include chromates or volatile corrosion inhibitors, etc. I'm not sure if this is of type two or type three, or a bit of each.

Some suppliers will process sample parts for you, and this may prove more effective than just trying various coatings, because the sample parts will be processed by people who know what is important to the process' functionality. Try to get them to process sample parts for you. If the sample parts fail, you can move on. If the sample parts pass, then it is a matter of the supplier educating you in what they did right and you did wrong. Good luck.
