Kindly elaborate effluent treatment for yellow aluminium chromate solutions
our clients are facing a problem of disposal of yellow aluminium chromate solution
as the norms demand that the effluent solution colour must be watery and not yellow at the time of disposal

Hi, Ashok. If the only norm you must meet is removal of the yellow color, adding sodium metabisulfite to reduce the hexavalent chromium to trivalent chromium is the only thing you need to do. But I seriously doubt that this complies with your local effluent standards. You probably must subsequently precipitate and filter out the trivalent chromium. Most plating handbooks including the Metal Finishing Guidebook have an introductory chapter on wastewater treatment, but truthfully, the treatment is too important and too dangerous to experiment with based solely on book learning. I really think you need to retain an experienced consultant who knows what he is doing. Good luck.
