Voltage drop at constant current in gold electroplating

Hello,

I think I may have an issue with my electroplating set up. I am running a constant DC 3.3 mA/cm2 to my gold plating solution from my current source ,while I monitor the voltage between both electrodes with a multimeter in parallel. After I plate for a couple of minutes, a progressive decrease in voltage occurs. I have not been able to identify why this is.Could you give me some hints?

Sounds like this would be normal, constant current or not the voltage is related to the resistance across the solution. Using ohms law you can determine the R of the solution although this will be a dynamic value (changing constantly)

You have a resistance at the cathode, resistance of the solvent and the resistance at the anode. After the first gold deposition, gold is a lot more conductive than steel; your total resistance will be less.
Good luck
