Help! Gold plating over copper alloy, blister/flaking?

Q. Does anyone recognize the issue here? or what may cause this problem with the plating. The finish has many of these spots that flakes/blisters.

It's gold plating over machined copper alloy (I believe it has a nickel underplating).

Possibly improper cleaning? or trapped salts in the base metal pores?

Any ideas would be highly appreciated.

Thanks!

A. Have these pins been heat treated? Check cleaning prior to heat treatment.
