Best Corrosion Protection for an Automotive Door Hinge Pin?

I have a small home based company that produces and sells aftermarket products for "jeep" type vehicles. We are introducing a replacement door hinge pin. It is machined from carbon steel, has a head, a "spline" area for gripping the hinge body, a cylindrical body, and a 6 mm thread. I am concerned about corrosion. It is expected the customer will paint the head, the body is hidden in the hinge, but the threads at the bottom are exposed. I have read about both nickel and zinc plating and their characteristics and have some experience with both. Suggestions?

Zinc Plate with yellow chromate and assemble with waterproof grease.

Or make them of stainless steel.
