Objective, Scientific Comparison of Powder Coating Pretreatments [Australia]

July 29, 2010

I am interested to know if any objective, scientifically based comparison has been done to compare the in service performance of the newer more "environmentally friendly" pretreatment systems like Silanes and Zirconium based "nano-technology" systems with the traditional and time proven systems like grain refined Zn Phosphates on Cold Rolled and Zn Plated substrates.
I read a lot of Hype, but have never seen a direct performance comparison based upon ASTM or equivalent Standards.
Specifically I refer to Impact Resistance, Corrosion Resistance & Adhesion.
I hope someone can enlighten me.
Regards,
