Pewter Plating

July 14, 2010

Is it possible to Pewter plate cast iron? I am a bathtub restorer and working on a 1932 clawfoot tub that my customer wants the fet Pewter plated. I have not been able to find out anything on this as of yet. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
John

You can plate an alloy consisting on 63% Tin, 37% Lead fairly easily. It is not exactly pewter but the main constituents are similar except for the little amount of copper present in pewter which adds hardness. For a plating job it may work fine and your customer might be pleased.
