Hard chrome plating for food processing

March 27, 2010

Dear Sir,
Can hard chrome plating be used in food processing M/C as a non-stick coat.I want the plates of a tortilla maker plated, which are heated 100 to 150 °C. And these plates will press the tortilla dough.

Hi, Manish. I don't see any reason why not. Hard chrome plating is frequently used in packaging machinery and many other applications.

Alternatively, electroless nickel is also frequently used for such products. It does not rust, is less aggressive to the environment and operators and is easier to rinse thoroughly to remove all toxic residues. Once plated it has good anti-stick properties and can be easily maintained.

Hello Manish,

Why not use real non stick coating for your application like Teflon coating. The services are available in your city and you can find it easily to get done. Electroplated surfaces will not give you non stick properties.
best luck!
