Cleaning rust from iron siding

How do I clean the rusty areas from my home? We bought the home with the siding on it. In just a few small areas the siding has rusted. How do I clean these small areas and then what can I do to paint and protect the areas. Need help please.

Hi, Joan. Sand off anything that is loose and flaky; then apply rust converter this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] before priming.
