Are aluminum die castings vs. forgings more plateable?

February 24, 2010

Can somebody from experience tell me from a plater's point of view whether it is better to copper-nickel-chrome pressure die castings or forgings in aluminum.
we have experienced a 0.5% -1.0% return from corrosion/plating peeling from a 6082 T6 forging. A competitive product which is die-cast has apparently no issues.
can someone please corroborate or deny this statement

I do not like castings, but a "pressure casting" is a bit of a different animal.
My opinion is that it really depends on the firm doing the forging and the firm doing the casting. They both can be good and they both can have problems.
