How to repair or paint over damaged silver plating on candle sticks?

I own a set of ornate candlesticks. As you can see by the photos, there are spots where the silver plating has worn off. Someone said I should paint them with aluminum spray paint. Will this work? Will paint adhere to silver plating? Do you have any suggestions on how I can repair or repaint these candlesticks? Thanks! Maddie
