Need plating that has a higher than average frictional characteristics

January 8, 2010

I have a pressure plate that needs to be plated for low to average corrosion resistance but have a better than average frictional characteristics.

We are only look at a holding force of 15 in-oz at most when friction disk and pressure plate are engaged.

Any help would be great.

Matt,
Your question is vague. The torque value given does not mean anything for us. Friction coefficients are expressed as absolute numbers. Electroless nickel composite with PTFE particles is around 0.1 and that's perhaps the lowest you can get.

Electroless Nickel/Boron Nitride composite coating has a COF less than EN/PTFE, if this helps.

Electroless Nickel serves as an excellent matrix in which to co-deposit materials such as diamond particles (in many sizes) silicon carbide, and aluminum oxide, in addition to PTFE and Boron Nitride....depends on application requirements.

I think he is looking for higher CoF as it is a pressure plate, and does not want it to slip (as much).
