Protective Coating Needed for Gold Plated Plastic Components
We manufacture acid gold plated plastic products for the bathroom industry. At present there is no secondary coating after the gold and as expected we are seeing a service life of about 4 to 5 years before the NKL starts to corrode through the porous gold plate. We need to increase the service life of the finished product. Could anybody advise of a good secondary coating that we could apply or other methods that may achieve our requirements. Has a clearclad e-coat system been developed for plastics or do they all require high temperature curing ? Any advise would be appreciated

The e-coat still requires high temp., otherwise it would be perfect. However there are some chromium based room temperature gold protectors. Ask your gold supplier, he probably has one.
