Nickel Sulfamate Plating Inquiry
December 21, 2009
Sir,
I don't have much experience in Ni Sulfamate plating, that is why I would like to seek an idea. Basically, our product is exhibiting POROSITY after the plating. I followed the parameters written in the technical data sheet of the chemical. However, still there's an occurrence of POROSITY scattered in an entire plating area. Still, we are doing simulations in order to determine the root cause. But still, I am asking for help to those have wide experienced in Ni Sulfamate Plating.
Thank you!

Hi, Dante. My first guess is that the parts aren't truly clean.

Dante,
I tend to agree with Ted that it sounds like a pre-cleaning issue. One other thing to consider is whether the plating is wetting out sufficiently. If not you may need to add a wetting agent.

Dante, If you tell us exactly what you are doing and what your bath parameters are, we can stop guessing and maybe answer your problem.

Dear Anyone,
We are just starting having a nickel sulphamate plating in our company. I build up the solution in accordance to what is written in the technical data sheet of the chemical. I also followed other instructions stated there, however, after a series of trials, still I'm encountering POROSITY on the item. Please give me some corrective actions on this problem.

What is your process, including concentrations, times, temperatures and amps per sq ft.
Are you using air agitation and is it oil free?
How are you checking your anti pit?
Will your parts pass a water break test after cleaning?
Are these pits all over or just on the top or bottom of the part as it is racked?
Look at your pits with a good light and with about 10 power magnification and tell us what you see.
Pictures would be of help.
