Can copper sulphate distinguish 5 chrome from 1-1/2 chrome

We ran into a problem the other day. 5 chrome piping was welded with 1 1/4 chrome wire. Would a copper sulphate this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] test tell you if all the 1 1/4 chrome filler material was removed? I felt that a PMI machine was needed for the bevel prep and pipe after cleaning but was later told that a copper sulphate test should have been done before rewelding. Can a copper sulphate test differentiate one chrome to another? I don't think so but it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong?
