PVD finishing on stainless steel jewelry

December 9, 2009

Hello,

I am a jeweller and have a couple of clients who want a pattern in black on their stainless wedding bands. I have been trying in vain to find some info about black PVD finishing onto stainless steel jewelry.

Firstly is it possible to only PVD finish a part of the metal while leaving the other part bare? Secondly - how?! Thirdly - does anyone know anyone who might provide this service in Sydney?

Many thanks,

Zoe Pook

Black is not an easy coating to deposit by PVD, but it can be done. It is possible to mask the parts so as to have a mixture of coated and uncoated areas.
