Nickel Composite MMC Electroform is Too Brittle

Q. I am busy on electroforming of MMC [metal matrix composite] based on Nickel using ceramic particles, the main problem is that my electroformed article is so brittle with low tensile strength. I will be grateful if anyone can help me.

A. Most nickel composites are brittle, but their brittleness is, amongst other things, dependent on the thickness of the composite and the composite particle size.
Try using a composite layer and not a complete electroform, or try using smaller particles. Also try reducing the ceramic content - this will also increase your ductility

thumbs up signHi. All of Trevor's sound good, but especially the idea of just a layer of composite-bearing material -- a simple answer that didn't occur to me :-)
