Conductivity problems with Henkel Alodine 5200

We are currently experiencing problems with the conductivity level of Henkel Alodine 5200 when applied to AZ91 Magnesium. We tested material samples (AZ31 and AZ91) and found the conductivity to be very good however our production AZ91 cast parts show little if any conductivity. Could this be a processing issue? Our plater is using a phosphate pre-wash - it this sufficient surface preparation? Is it possible the cast AZ91 parts are developing a surface condition (post-cast) that prevents proper adherence of the Alodine 5200? Many of the parts have a dark sooty (gray) appearance in some areas - is that significant?

I see from another Alodine 5200 post that Mr Phil Johnson may be a technical resource for Henkel - any comments from Mr Johnson?

Hi, Jim. Phil Johnson was very active on this site for a while, but has not been around lately -- so you should contact Henkel directly if you want their technical assistance.

You included the specific product name, which is helpful for people to understand what you are doing, but we remind the readers that we can't print praise or slams of products or suggestions to switch brands.
