Do I bake base coat and top coat at same time?
November 27, 2009
I have recently purchased a powder coater and a few different colours to use. Some of the colours suggest using either a primer or metallic silver under them. I have those as well.
What the supplier cannot tell me is do I spray the primer or metallic then bake/cure before spraying the top coat or do I spray both of them and bake/cure both at once.
Help is more than appreciated as you can imagine.

I would suggest that the primer is semi baked and obtain full bake after applying the top coat... this improve inter-coat adhesion. The reverse goes for metallic/clear coats... to prevent the aluminium turning greyish (this is to prevent the metallic being partially attacked by the second coat) it is prudent to fully cure both of the applied coats.
