Colored plating for steel? Not yellow or blue zinc.
Hi,
We are developing our own product line and would like to set our products apart from the competition by giving our steel parts some kind of color. Is there anything out there besides yellow or blue zinc? I was in a shop a few months ago and saw some steel parts that were a dark red color. Any suggestions for a coating that is not yellow, blue or black? Thanks in advance for any help.

You might consider PVD coatings. In addition to the yellow gold of TiN, you can get a light gold from ZrN, various grays, and rose or magenta from TiCN. All of these coatings are very hard and wear resistant, and are easy to deposit on stainless steel. You can find out more by checking out the websites of the PVD vendors.
