Refinish Polished Gold Faucet

November 14, 2009

Hello,
The integrity of the finish on a bathroom solid brass faucet is compromised and discolored (turned green). The faucet is no longer manufactured and replacing it with something similar would be too costly for us. As there is only one bathroom in our home, we are looking for other low cost solutions where we don't have to remove the faucet for any lengthy period of time. We thought about simply trying to match the current finish which is a 24kt Polished Gold. Do you know of any way we can refinish this kind of surface? We are grateful for any recommendation you might have.
Thanks!

If it is solid brass (try with magnet) then you can remove old lacquer and recoat it (Everbrite [a finishing.com supporting advertiser] is good brand). If Brass plated iron or gilt brass, try to find nearest plating shop.
Hope it helps and good luck!
