Pot allowed to boil dry and is now discolored

I have a stainless steel calphalon pot that I filled with water and boiled dry causing the exterior of the pot to be discolored on the bottom. Is there any way to return this pot back to its original condition? The inside bottom is also discolored as well but not as much as the exterior. It is part of a set and I can't buy just this pot.

First of two simultaneous responses --

Susan,
Try undiluted white or cider vinegar in bulk on eBay or Amazon [affil links] and wipe in wide circular motions. Club soda on its own can work too. Don't be afraid to use a scotch-brite pad this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] with baking soda [in bulk on eBay or Amazon [affil links] if the former two suggestions don't work. If you use scotch-brite pads, rub in a wide circular motion conforming to the bottom of the pan. This will leave a natural looking brushed finish.

Second of two simultaneous responses --

Try 30 % hydrochloric acid(home grade -if available in USA)-be very careful, use rubber gloves this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] and safety goggles this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] , neutralize with baking soda and then rinse well. You can try stainless steel wool [affil links] too -- much safer option.
Hope it helps and good luck!
