Testing that HCl activating solution is not exhausted

how can I see when It's time to change my 50 % HCl activator. I know about analysis with NaOH by titration, but the activator can give a good result even if the solution is very old and dirty.

Some people will analyze and make up for dragout losses and use it for very long times, basically as long as it works.
A problem with this is the formation of iron chloride which can cause some parts to pit. I have been in shops that did not test and just made tiny adds of acid based on years of experience and changed it out when it smelled bad. That was there iron chloride test.
