Repairing Scratches on Frigidaire "Easy Care" Stainless Steel finish
Q. Hello,
I am trying to help find a solution to repair scratches on an "Easy Care" finish that Frigidaire manufactures on their Professional Series Stainless Steel Appliances. After speaking to a different customer representative countless times, I am still unable to get a direct answer. The best customer service could do was to tell me that it is "like a clear coat finish that automobiles have" or it's "some sort of lacquer finish". Is it possible to polish out or fill the scratches on this type of clear coat or lacquer finish? Do you know exactly what type of product is used for this type of protective finish? It is in fact a real stainless steel door with a protective coating, not a painted stainless look alike finish. Is door replacement the only option?
In addition, is it possible for dings or dents in a stainless door to be professionally pulled and removed/repaired as they could on an automobile? Is it worth attempting?
Thank You,
Marios

A. Hi, Marios. The scratches cannot be buffed or sanded out like on plain stainless steel appliances. But I don't personally know what paint/lacquer/coating will work.
As for pulling the dents, letter 23986 covers that subject and includes both a claim by a professional that it can only be done by professionals, and some claims by consumers that they did it successfully themselves. You'll have to judge that part for yourself
:-)
Good luck.

Q. Thank you very much for the reply Ted. Would you try an auto polish or wax with carnauba to try and remove scratches from the clear coat or lacquer finish that is applied to the stainless doors?
Thanks again!

A. Sorry, but I was just relating what others said about this, Marios, and don't have any idea what the finish is or what it looks like.

A. In some cases, the panel can be removed and replaced - I would suggest an embossed stainless steel panel that would hide finger prints and scratches. The cost would be about $400.00

A. I was told by Lowes that it was a polyurethane finish on the gallery/pro Frigidaire finish
