Failure of phosphated castings in salt spray test

Our SG Iron castings are failing in Salt Spray Test. What may be the probable cause?

Hi, Sandeep. Unfortunately you have not provided enough information for people to help you efficiently. If we assume that you are speaking of the ASTM B117 test, how many hours are you achieving, or how many hours are you failing at? Did you previously successfully process these parts or have you never done this before? Have you changed casting suppliers? Have you changed phosphatizing shops?

If you are asking what is necessary to successfully process the parts, that is a subject you can find explanations of in Preparation of Metal for Painting[this on Amazon affil links] and "Phosphating of Metals" [this on Amazon or AbeBooks affil links] by Rausch. Best of luck.

Regards,

Dear Sandeep,
Phosphating is advisable only for base preparation of Paint or Powder coating, It is not recommended for Salt spray.Still you want to do the salt spray, after salt spray Apply some sealant or resin then you do the salt spray. This will give better result compared with previous.
