Hi, Stephen. The most common way to treat chromium in metal plating applications is to reduce the pH to somewhere between 3.0 and 5.0, depending on the design of the reactor, and add sodium bisulfite. Once the chrome has been reduced from hexavalent to trivalent, hydroxide precipitation is possible. Here in the USA you should be certified in HAZ/MAT operations to do such things though. You really can't safely learn metal finishing wastewater treatment over the internet.
There are some good books, though, like Kushner's "Water and Waste Control for the Plating Shop" ⇦[this on eBay, Amazon, AbeBooks affil links] and Clarence Roy's "Operation and Maintenance of Surface Finishing Wastewater Treatment Systems" ⇦[this on eBay, Amazon, or AbeBooks affil links]. Good luck.
