WHEEL RIMS PLATING

September 13, 2009

Hi, my name is AMAN JOLLY and am running a nickel-chrome plant but lately there seems to be some problem when I try to take out wheel rims for motorbikes. The problem comes mainly where the 2 pieces are welded together( there is not enough nickel deposition, very light)I'm plating the component at 500Amp at 5V and there are about 25pcs./lot. One lot is for about 25min.The brightener and leveller are of GTZ(German Technology Zinc)Company and their loading is 100ml of each per hour.

Due to this problem I'm facing a lot of problem as 15pcs. per lot are either yellow or very light in their deposition.

I've thought of increasing the height of the tank, currently 29", to 44" so that the piece is freely suspended and does not touch the base of the tank.

kindly help me solve this problem at your earliest as I'm facing huge losses because of this.

Best Regards
Aman Jolly

Have your nickel vendor send tech services out to look at your tanks.
Without an area given, amperage per load means nothing.
I have never heard of anyone plating anything where parts touched the tank. In my book, that is asking for trouble.
If you make the tank significantly larger, and run more parts /load, you will need a larger power supply.

you have problem to not enough nickel deposit, What kind of plating cycle ,stainless steel or steel .Make sure plating tank solution concentration ,temp, pH in spec and enough nickel metal in baskets. You have to check all connection in your tank and rectifier.Check your nickel baskets bags (make sure are not plugged up) otherwise you have to change the bags.

May I know how you dip the wheel rim ? where you put the anode ? The effective way to plating it is by using center anode method. My previous company using center anode plating machine and get good result ( plating capacity = 1000-5000 wheel rims pieces/day ).
