Surface Roughness 2H

August 28, 2009

I have a German customer who has specifically asked for a surface roughness of 2H.
I'm buying my material in the States and need to know what the US equivalent to 2H is - can anyone help?
Thanks

Hi, Abi. Sorry, I've never heard of that or anything close.

2H is probably related to a "pencil hardness test", if you buy pencils you get them in different hardness. Pencils from 2B to 9B are softer, Pencils from 2H to 9H are harder.

The requirement 2H in this kind of test means, the surface shall not be scratched by a pencil with hardness 2H.
The test is also described in ASTM D3363
