Cyanide production and industrial applications
Q. Sir, I am presently writing a paper on alternative methods of cyanide degradation. Please I will like to enquire from you about,
1) the total amount of cyanide produced globally and what percentage of that is consumed by the different sectors/industries using it?
2) is there a global benchmark for the cyanide concentration of wastes from these sectors. By benchmark, I am referring to a maximum concentration permitted for cyanide in the waste from the different industries?
3) is there any website providing countries' specific regulation of cyanide wastes?
Thanks for your services. Bye

A. Hi, Augustine. There was a time when Dupont was a "champion" for cyanide. You could contact them, but I think that that time has passed, and that there is no company or trade organization dedicated to promoting its use and gathering the kinds of figures you are looking for. Unfortunately, that probably means that you have to pay for such studies by buying a report .
There are a lot of countries and a lot of sectors, but in places like the USA you can find the cyanide effluent limitations for various sectors in the EPA regulations available on line. Good luck.
