Chrome Plating alternative

July 21, 2009

Hi,

I am working as design engineer in India. Right now I am just trying to reduce the cost of plating used in some Components used in a Electronic door locking system. I want an alternate plating or process with high quality results and environment-friendly out there. I greatly appreciate any feedback.

Regards,

Hi, Anup. We cannot help you with your problem until we understand it. Is the substrate steel? Are you speaking of nickel-chrome plated decorative exposed parts, or hard chrome plated internal parts. Are they lubricated? Are they used inside (like in an air conditioned bank) or outside?

Mooney's Law: "Cost reduction programs invariably fail, because they are grounded in the hubris that the product is already good enough or too good". It never is. Please describe some way, besides cost, in which the present solution is not fully satisfactory, then we can make progress. Looking forward to further discussion on this.

Regards,
