Calculating electroplating thickness based on pH
Hello Sir, I am a student of Materials Engineering from Pakistan. I am doing project of BSc on Nickel Electroplating. Now there is a problem that how can I calculate the thickness of the Nickel plating that I have plated on mild steel samples. I have found many equation but the problem is that Whether the plating thickness depends on pH of the solution (Watts Bath).?
its my first time I am asking any question online and I hope a positive and quick response from your side. Thanks Have a nice day

Hi, Muhammad. You say you've found many equations for calculating the thickness, but I know of only one: Faraday's Law of Electrolysis. Read up on that one, calculate the theoretical thickness based on 100 percent efficiency, then you will be prepared to think about the implications of pH upon efficiency. Good luck.

Mr M A Javed.
Michael Faraday's laws are the basis.
Here is a ready calculation.
To achieve 1 Micron a minute Nickel deposit a current density of 50 amps per square foot is needed.
This is inaccurate to an extent of 2 to 4 percent depending on variables like solution strength, pH and temperature.
Use this as a starter.
