Electroless nickel plating plus Manganese Phosphating

July 1, 2009

Dear All ,

We are facing a problem on surface finish disturbance of ENP coating due to manganese phosphating.
We are doing partial ENP for our component and after that manganese phosphating for the rest. While manganese phosphating some times we are facing the ENP coating will be rough or removed . Will you please explain why ? and Where will be the exact problem. Also suggest some alternative process for same.

Hi, Anil. Some step in your phosphating process is attacking the electroless nickel, but it's even harder for us over here to determine that than it is for you. When you are having a bad run, pull a part off the rack after cleaning, after acid, after phosphating, and after any other steps to see if you can find which tank is attacking it. My bet is that it is the phosphate tank itself. Good luck.
