Unit conversions for powder coating impact test
Q. Can we convert 80 inch-lb into kg-cm, for knowing the value of impact test in powder coat?

A. Hi, Abhijit. It would depend on what spec you are trying to comply with, because actually you need to run such tests in the units that the spec writing organization chose. For example, some ASTM standards read: "The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard."
What spec are you trying to comply with?

Hi,
I have a similar problem.
I need to convert 22 inch-pounds as I can only use 1 kg weight and cm so don't know which height I should drop my 1 kg weight.

A. Hi Marek. To convert inch-pounds to cm-kg is very simple since a cm is 2.54 inch and a pound is .454 kg. So 22 inch pounds is 22 x 2.54 x .454 = 25.4 cm-kg. But unless you tell people the specific spec you are trying to comply with, it's dangerous to infer that your test will comply with it just because we can convert inch-pounds to cm-kg; I'm not confident that using a 1 kg weight is acceptable :-)
