Is there a MIL-C-5541 spec for hand (touchup) application?

We have an aluminum chassis that requires that it is plated MIL-C-5541 Type II Class 3 (clear) and painted before the top and bottom sealing surfaces are machined. We are then instructed to "hand Iridite" the two sealing surfaces since the part cannot be re-dipped due to the paint and zinc plated hardware.

Is there a spec or specific instructions for exactly how to hard Iridite a part? Our customer told us to apply it with a clean cloth and wipe it off, but I would think that it would have to sit to penetrate and/or dry for a certain amount of time before wiping the excess off.

Has anyone come across this yet? I've been searching on and off for weeks and am striking out.

Thank you in advance for your help
Shawn

Hello,

Use the search engine on this site, or give Bob Probert a call - I'm pretty sure he has described the process previously. Remember to wear gloves and dispose of all resultant waste appropriately.

Good luck!
