Etching the Die Ring for a Elongated Penny Machine

The die ring is case hardened steel. I am using KTFR Photo-Resist, pre-baked and post-baked. I have been using Nitric Acid diluted 3/1 with a DC current of about 15 Volts at .80-Amps. The actual etching takes several minutes and gives a nice clean etch. It does not etch as deeply as I would hope it would. I have heard about ferric chloride this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] etching and was wondering if this would work on the case hardened steel and would possibly eliminate the need for the DC current. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.
