Electroless nickel boron nitride coating to aluminium plain slides
May 22, 2009
I am designing a camera which will include a linear sliding element. The prior art relies on anodised aluminium against delrin, but problems have included poor bonding of the delrin slides and frequent accidental damage to the exposed surface.
My prototype uses linear crossed roller bearings, but this is sub-optimal both since the slide cannot be fully removed to access internal components and on the grounds of cost. A metal to metal v-groove slide, machined in 6061 aluminium, would be ideal, but this would clearly require a surface finish of both high hardness and lubricity. It would be preferable to avoid the need for any additional lubrication.
EN BN has been suggested as a solution, I would very much welcome consideration of the appropriateness of this or of alternatives.
