copper sulphate Molarity
May 21, 2009
Hi, I'm a Chemistry student in Year 12 and we are doing an extended experimental investigation for one of our pieces of assessment and its all about Redox chemistry.
For our Experimental investigation we are investigating electroplating using copper sulphate
⇦this on
eBay or
Amazon [affil links] and are testing to see if surrounding an iron nail with copper rather than just using a square sheet will achieve a more even coat. but our teacher wants us to make our own copper sulphate solutions, but I'm unsure what molarity to mix up? I have researched but can't seem to find a standard recipe
Can you help?
Thanks

Hello,
Copper can be plated from different types of solutions. For copper sulphate bath, the solution consists of:
a.Copper Sulphate:195 to 248 gpl
b.sulfuric acid:30 to 75 gpl
c.Chloride:50 to 120 ppm
d.current density:20 to 100 asf
The above is the general formulation. For other types,
Pl refer to pp 231, Metal Finishing Hand-Book
Hope this helps
